Goals and objectives of SLAN:

To arouse the awareness of Nigerians on the Socio-cultural and economic benefits of urban greenery and open spaces especially parks gardens, plazas beaches, and streets in the positive societal transformation.

Enhance the advancement of the knowledge and skill in the art of landscape architecture as an instrument of service in public welfare.

Hold congresses, conferences and other meetings, and publish the proceedings thereof.

Enlighten and educate the government and public on conservation and reclamation of oil spillage areas, erosion, waste lands, denuded coastland, desert encroached zones, mining fields and preservation of marginal lands for endangered land areas of outstanding natural beauty for tourism, park and recreational purposes;

Create an image of Nigerian Landscape through the application of contemporary environmental design and practices to the traditional use of open spaces and translation of indigenous art to the modern concept of landscape planning.

Establish Regions and Regional Councils.

Encourage the establishment of Landscape Architecture Curriculum in Nigerian higher institutions as the first step in the development of Landscape Architectural education and research;

Represent the profession as the only legal body empowered to liaise between the profession and Government in setting up Professional Scale of fees for practicing Landscape Architects in Nigeria, establish the society’s code of professional conduct and arbitrate among the Members of the profession on one hand and between Members and their clients on the other;

Liaise Members of the Society with their international counterparts so as to promote a constant flow of knowledge between Landscape Architects all over the world;

Cooperate with other professional bodies and non-profit organizations that have identical goals and objectives.
