Indigenous Ecosystem Corridors and Nodes
A joint project of the UIA and IFLA
Presidents launch statement
It is our pleasure to introduce a new joint venture between the architecture and landscape architecture professions. The International Union of Architects (UIA) and the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) have a longstanding commitment to work together for the common good. As part of this commitment, we are launching a joint initiative concerned with establishing a joint mission on ecosystem restoration. The project is to be known as the UIA-IFLA Project on Indigenous Ecosystem Corridors and Nodes (UIA-IFLA IEC+N Project). It will focus primarily on existing and developing urban areas.
This project fits directly with the 1st March 2019 resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations to declare 2021-2030 as the Decade of Ecosystem Restoration. This was followed in May by the first report of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). We see both UIA and IFLA as having an important role in connecting the professions in a practical way with the UN declaration.
