Obituary: Prof P.G.Ngunjiri, FAAK
We have learnt, with great sorrow of the demise of Prof P.G.Ngunjiri, a Fellow Member of the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) and the Director at Conte Design where he consulted on various aspects of the built environment including Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Planning and Urban Design.
Professor Philip. G. Ngunjiri was the first Chancellor of Maasai Mara University (2013-2018). He wore various professional hats as a Landscape Architect, Architect and Environmental planner. He was the first vice president of International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Africa Region and he was one of the founders of the Landscape Architect’s Chapters, AAK.
He also founded the Department of Architecture, (1990), the School of Architecture and Building Sciences,(2001), and the University Community Collaboration Department (2005) at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
He was awarded a Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa), Maasai Mara University, 2013. He was also awarded a Gold Award of Excellence in the Academic Category, and Construction Industry Award of Excellence by Architectural Association of Kenya. Professor Ngunjiri was an avid researcher in both applied and pure research.
He was a regular participant at the AAK Annual Convention where he made several insightful presentations over the years and an active contributor to policy discussions within AAK.
