Call for volunteers to participate in one of three IFLA working groups
During the recent IFLA World Council meetings held in Nairobi and Stockholm, we recognised that effective professional organisations must evolve and adapt to change to address the needs of their members. For that to happen, we must ensure that our corporate governance follows international standards to seize new opportunities, that our secretariat is well-resourced, and that we can focus on key projects and initiatives essential to the profession. This will permit us to position ourselves as a reliable partner to the external world.
As such, the following motions were approved:
1. The World Council accepts the establishment of a Corporate Governance Revision Working Group (CGRWG), led by the IFLA President and the IFLA Vice-President, with three IFLA delegates and two external members to IFLA, mandated to present a revised constitution and by-laws for the 2024 World Council for approval.
2. The World Council accepts the establishment of a Congress Revision Working Group (CRWG), led by the IFLA Treasurer and the IFLA CER Chair, with three IFLA delegates and two external members to IFLA, mandated to present a revised operational model for the 2024 IFLA World Council for approval.
3. The World Council accepts the establishment of a Standing Committee Revision Working Group (SCRWG), led by the IFLA CER Chair, IFLA EAA Chair and IFLA PPP Chair, with four IFLA delegates, mandated to present a revised structure of the standing committees and working groups for the 2024 IFLA World Council for approval.
While a short summary is provided for each working group below, we’ve included a link to the full terms of reference as well.
We are now calling for volunteers amongst our membership to participate actively in one of the three working groups. Please get acquainted with the profile of the candidates we are looking for:
a) Delegates who wish to apply for the working group are recommended to have relevant experience on governance issues either by their professional occupation, involvement in similar organisations, or being involved in the board of their National association on issues related to governance and constitutional/by-laws changes.
b) Delegates should have been involved with IFLA or IFLA regions, either in working group activities or any other activities and have the knowledge and experience of IFLA’s structure and how the organisation works. The delegates should come from different regions. Due to the limited number of delegates and for all regions to be represented, external members may be selected from the regions where there is no representation by the delegates.
c) The two external members should have holistic knowledge and experience in different profiles of organisations like IFLA. They should not necessarily have to be landscape architects but should be familiar with the landscape architecture profession. They might come from related built environment disciplines or others.
d) All members should be knowledgeable in English and have time to contribute to this volunteer work.
If you’re interested in applying for one of the delegate vacancies across the three working groups, please apply following this link. A CV and cover letter will be required.
We’ll be accepting applications until 15 January 2024.
If you’ve any queries, please contact the IFLA Secretariat.

IFLA Congress Review Working Group (IFLA CRWG)
The World Congress of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) is an annual event attracting global landscape architects, partners, stakeholders, and other participants. The need to optimise the value of this meeting in keeping with current global challenges and effectively make the event meaningful and aligned with IFLA’s values, focus and objectives becomes necessary. The Congress Revision Working Group (CRWG) is mandated to present a revised operational model for the 2024 IFLA World Council for approval.

The International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) relies on the efforts of its four standing committees: Communications and External Relations (CER), Education and Academic Affairs (EAA), Finances and Business Planning (FBP), and Professional Practice and Policy (PPP). While serving as the engines of the organisation, it’s important to reassess their mandate to ensure continued alignment with the IFLA’s mission, values, and best practices in landscape architecture. This working group is established and mandated by the 2023 IFLA World Council to conduct a comprehensive review and propose amendments to the Standing Committees and affiliated Working Groups, with the aim of presenting a preliminary proposal for discussion at the 2024 IFLA World Council.
