8th Taiwan Landscape Award
The annual event of “The 8th Taiwan Landscape Award” ceremony was held in Taipei on January 9, 2021. The theme “Townscape Renaissance 20” was chosen for the ceremony to symbolize growth model of coexistence with natural ecology and to explore sustainable development in the future landscape architecture field. In addition, by witnessing the construction achievements of urban and rural landscape in Taiwan in the past 20 years so as to strengthen the operation and communication of the international landscape professional community and enhance international competitiveness.
The Prize examined the state of landscape architecture through the honoree’s practice, showcasing how landscape architecture and its practitioners are transforming the public realm by addressing social, ecological, cultural, environmental, and other challenges in their work.
Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Chih-chien is the first person in Taiwan to receive IFLA Asia-Pac LA Luminary Award, 2019. He transformed the urban landscape of Hsinchu City with an interdisciplinary, inter-departmental and holistic approach becomes a model for urban landscape governance. Hereby recognized by awarding the Urban Renewal Contribution Award.
We also invited Damian Tang, the past president of International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Asia-Pacific region to serve as the assessment for us.
He has been in the landscape industry for more than fifteen years strengthening both local standards and international standing of the landscape architecture profession in Singapore.
The “Townscape Renaissance 20” event was hosted by Construction and Planning Agency of the Ministry of the Interior which was also cooperated with Taiwan Institute of Landscape Architects Republic of China Landscape Society for “The 8th Taiwan Landscape Award" in order to commend the behind-the-scenes of urban and rural landscape and promote Taiwan's excellent landscape design works. The award ceremony is very meaningful and will helps landscape in Taiwan reach out to the world. More importantly, the world will see the strength in Taiwan's landscape architecture design.
